Blessings in a Backpack, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry is celebrating its 10th birthday this year. The year-long birthday celebration will involve national events and campaigns tailored and implemented on a local level by their dedicated volunteer team.

For the second year in a row, volunteers at APICS 2018 will assemble backpacks of nutritious food that will be given to Chicago-area elementary school students in need. Plan to join us!

In the United States, there are more than 16.2 million children who are at risk of hunger. Persistent hunger can result in malnutrition, a weakened immune system, increased hospitalization, lower IQ, shorter attention spans, and lower academic achievement. Through its support of Blessing in a Backpack, APICS is contributing to alleviating food insecurity in children and helping them to develop and meet their potential.

Blessings in a Backpack is currently feeding nearly 100,000 children in 46 states across the United States. The program is a hybrid of private sector funding and public partnership carried out in schools.
